But X3 TC does have ways to speed up the process even in vanilla. It's not as simplistic as Freelancer though. I havent had a chance to play it yet, but it should be pretty damn good if you're into things like Freelancer and the old game Elite. The start of the game is relatively slow, especially for new players. Terran conflict is supposed to be like that but with more features, more refined etc. If you like fighting, a better fighter would be appropriate.
If you like the idea of moving wares around, a cargo ship might be what you want. EDIT: IMPORTANT X3: Albion Prelude is an ADDON to X3: Terran Conflict. Then you probably want to earn some money, so you can afford some proper ships. It's one of the 'fastest' and most shielded Destroyers, smaller than the others, which makes it harder to hit, and the turrets. Teladi Falcon Hauler - 200mj shielding, 1 turret, decent speed, excellent cargo capacity. Best ships you can use: Argon Eclipse - 200mj shielding, 2 turrets, decent speed, decent cargo space. I know its an older game, but there are not a lot of working trainers out there for this game, and being its older chances are you would not need to make any updates to it once you make one.The first I would recommend, is learning the ins and outs of the game. Had once screen going with the game, another screen with forums and my laptop with the universe map. If you don't fling your monitor out the window that is.

The things I want/need most are Reputation +/-, and a way to speed up my main ship without using a speed hack that speeds up everything not just me. The immeasurably long backstory of the X.

Those are the main things for me as I have no problem modding the cargo hold with CE searching, and credits are not really an issue as I can search for those & freeze them if needed as well. Version 2.0 of PC title X3: The Terran Conflict still falls just short of being a classic, but certainly ranks as the best, most polished X title so far. I would very much love to see a good trainer for this for the following features,
